More is Less

A friend just called and shared his thought with me about the Jewish people eating manna in the desert. G-d ordered everyone to take exactly an "omer" [an ancient measure] of manna every morning to fulfill their eating needs for the day. Lo and behold, read what happens next:

And the children of Israel did so: they gathered, both the one who gathered much and the one who gathered little. And they measured [it] with an omer, and whoever gathered much did not have more, and whoever gathered little did not have less; each one according to his eating capacity, they gathered.
So some guys saw something that looked good and tasted good, and definitely made them feel good so they figure, I'll take just a little more... and a bit more. The end result was that more was not more... But it gets even better, consider the next verse:
And Moses said to them, Let no one leave over [any] of it until morning. But [some] men did not obey Moses and left over [some] of it until morning, and it bred worms and became putrid, and Moses became angry with them
So, here more becomes less... I have a good time, I want to stay longer, I want to enjoy it more, I want the bliss to last forever. Well my friend, it's midnight and you just turned into a pumpkin... More is less.

I have today! One day at a time to follow G-ds directions leaving yesterday in the past and not know if tomorrow will come. Today, I live, that is what the program gives back to me for my strenous work, making the decision to turn my will and life over to the care of G-d and changing all my attitudes and ideas. shy1
