Contempt Prior to Investigation
As a follow up to our Openness class, here is a famous quote, attributed to the 18th century philosopher Herbert Spencer, printed in the Big Book at the end of Appendix II - Spiritual Awakening.
“There is a principle which is a bar against all information, which is proof against all arguments and which cannot fail to keep a man in everlasting ignorance— that principle is contempt prior to investigation.” —HERBERT SPENCER

Yisrael, great posts this week. The disucussion at the thursday meeting which you allude to here, was fantastic. I love when we are in the basics that keep us recovered; as in, from a "seemingly hopeless state of mind and body" (bb). My recovery is dependent upon my ability to have an openmind, especially when it comes to spiritual matters, and being of service. Thank you to those of you that allow me to be of service, I am grateful for the gift you have given me.
I wish some one had knocked me over the head with this long before I took the cotton out of my ears and started listening. But thats not how we doit around here. Thats just part of my journey...
