Time Takes Time

Tonight's discussion at Friendship House was around the concept of time. Time as in wasted time. Time as in "OMG I just spent a decade doing nothing".

Also Time as in the Talmudic statement regarding the recovery of Rabbi Elazar Ben Durdaya: "here is a man who redeemed himself in one moment". Mr. Ben Durdaya was so saddened by his past actions, his heart was so broken by regret, that he passed away during his Teshuva process.

The tragedy is when that moment of recovery comes just before the moment our soul leaves our body. If I can do so much in one moment why not do it early in my life when I have decades ahead to enjoy the results.

On a lighter note here is another take on wasting time doing important things - Jonathan's Time Machine

I just learned something that connects the two topics that you shared here from last nights meeting. One was the idea of time and the other the idea of divine providence.

One of the ways of understanding divine providence is that the entire creation is recreated at every moment by G-d. So when you see a leaf falling for 10 seconds, the leaf is actually being recreated every moment and placed in the path of the fall. Once you understand that, it follows that there has to be a reason for the leaf to fall.

One of the things that is created every moment is the entire concept of time. So therefore, every moment has within it the essence of time, and therefore, all of time.

When you tap in to that deep essence of the moment you can go back in time, forwards in time or above time. Eliezer ben dudarya tapped into that essence.

Just figured I’d share.

While I am here, I would like to take this opportunity to congratulate all of you on this amazing blog which inspires so many people – many who don’t share.
