Did Our Pain Double?

Or did we lose the ability to face our pain?

Americans Popping Nearly Twice as Many Painkillers Than in 1997

A 2004 government study estimated between 2 million and 3 million doses of codeine, hydrocodone and oxycodone are stolen annually from pharmacies, distributors and drug manufacturers. The AP's analysis only included retail sales and did not include estimates of diverted pharmaceuticals.

I heard about this on the radio yesterday. I was thinking, are we in more pain or has tolerance for life gone down. In other words do we as Americans have a difficult time dealing with life on life’s terms? I think the fact that the rabbi posted it was the implication. On the other hand we being in recovery are taught how to deal with life on life's terms. Being someone who use to use all those pills mentioned (plus a few others) I am glad I have been handed such great tools.
